Title: 94 GMC 4x4 cummins
Post by: fabman72 on December 18, 2013, 07:01:08 PM
I bought this truck because i am wanting 4wd to be able to move sheds in any kind of weather the other truck was fine but i ended up stuck half the time and it was kind of embarrassing getting pulled out by mini vans and Toyota's anyhow i was going to add a front axle to the other truck but with the 9 speed i would have had alot of work ahead of me i usually only have a few months during the winter to do any work on the truck so i decided to run the other while i am building this one.
It has the Monroe setup here is a few pictures of what they did .

For the transfer case shifter you will see a little dimple where a little bracket that bolts the shifter bezel  go from there back 8.75 and that is where the top bolt for the shifter is located

Hey Fabman, hope the project is going good. Quick question.... Does your 94 HD have the "double frame"?

Looks good   Hay Fabman 72 Have you herd anything on the continental 225 70 19.5 tires open shoulder  you posted a link on them ?  :)

Which exact Continental?  The F450SD's we've been buying at work come with 225/70/19.5 Continental HSR's up front and HDR's out back (S for steer and D for drive) - they seem OK for an OEM tire, at 33K my fronts are starting to show noticeable wear, rears are still great.  We're in what Goodyear refers to as a "high scrub" application though with lots of low speed maneuvering so that's gonna wear the fronts a lot.

HSR has a very plain tread pattern for a steer position, HDR seems like a cross between a street tire/all terrain type pattern.

On the advice of my tire guys I switched our fleet from recap drives to Dayton D630D drives.  They are running them on a lot of wreckers and plow/salt rigs locally and are an awesome tire.  I'm 11,000 miles into the set on my HD with zero noticeable wear even after a season of plowing.  They have great traction, a nice looking pattern and the best part is zero sidewall deflection even under max rated loads.  Nice price too- I pay $205 apiece wholesale.

FYI only..I ran the fuel filler neck out back between the frame rails so I could keep the flatbed height low.
