Picked up this thing yesterday, and plan to bring it back to life better than my original HD. 454, 4L80 and the rockwell 103 out back. Not sure what gear it has yet, it's the 183.5" wheel base. Was a stake truck for an electrical contractor.

Nice you going to make it 4X4 ?  I don't see the frame supports on it  Was that a option ?

Not typical until 1995-up from everything I've seen, unless long wheelbase (183.5") - the pre-1995 135.5" and 159.5" wheelbase trucks I've seen did not have them.

My 1993 159.5" did not; my 1995 159.5" did.  Of course my 1994 135.5" did not.

MrBeasts' 1994 135.5" had them but we looked a little closer and saw all the rear components (crossmembers, spring hangers, shackle brackets) were bolted to the frame, not riveted, that was the dead giveaway - ran the VIN and it was originally a 183.5" truck that had been shortened.

Oh yes, 2wd isn't an option. I wouldn't have made it out of the guys yard without locking it in. Been tossing ideas for wheelbase around, I love how versitile my 8ft bed is, however I wouldn't mind doing something slightly different.

Also, just ran the VIN through Compnine, showing I have a 4.56 which means I will most likely keep the C103 out back.

Says the color was silver, with dark medium grey interior... Truck is white inside out, upside down with blue interior. Not too concerned with that, as long as the gear ratio is correct.

*edit- wiped off a spot on the dash, and it is in fact dark grey. Pretty cool because I have only seen that in a topkick, personally. Paint is still white, though  Cheesy

Yup, won't be able to see it until Good Friday, though. It's in the garage but we're on an 18 day stretch at work.

Day 13 of 18 at work, water pump went out in the cummins truck, (did you guys know I daily drive the other HD? Lol) so the '91 had to be put outside.

Took a couple quick crusty pics of the rear for kodiak. They don't do the axle justice, the thing is huge! And nasty. For now.

Finally got these converted over to "gm style", bought them as ford units from a member here a while ago. Counting it as an update since they'll end up on this truck at some point...

Hey, quick question since it seems that you know a lot about the early HD's..... I've found a 1992 HD with a Monroe conversion and was wondering if these DANA 70F axles were any less heavy duty than the 1995 and newer HD's? Thank you

Shouldn't be any difference. Most, if not all dana 70 fronts use dana 60 pieces, such as shafts, u-joints, bearings, brakes ect. You do get a larger housing with much larger inner c's though. As far as I know they're a 5000lb capacity to match what these came with, but that's only 500lbs more than what a dana 60 is rated for.
