Hydraboost setup question
« on: November 29, 2015, 05:30:28 PM »
Installing an SBC small block in a 3500HD with TPI. Would like to use the OEM Camaro TPI serpentine setup, but noticed that the stock TPI power steering pump (non hydroboost 2 line) has a smaller reservoir and that the larger hydraboost pump has the large reservoir (3 lines) and won't bolt directly into the stock Camaro TPI serpentine mounting bracket....So.........

Can I use the Camaro pump and just add a junction for the (2) return lines? Will be installing the oilcooler, would this setup require  an external reservoir? Some Chevy Astro vans were equipped with hydraboost (3 line ?)...wondering if they used the smaller tank like the stock TPI pump?

Thanks

Haven't done it myself, but I have seen a few Cummins conversions and dodge/Cummins hydroboost retrofits using a simple brass tee in the return line.

Thanks

Have seen a few T setups also. Just wondering if a stock Camaro power steering pump will be able to handle the additional in-line hydroboost along with the power steering on the 3500HD. Really don't know the innards/capabilities of the truck and car pumps.

I want to use the Camaro TPI serpentine setup because it allows for the TPI thermostat housing hose outlet.

Looks like I'll be able to mount the OEM 3500HD hydroboost pump in the Camaro TPI serpentine brackets...just need to cut a notch for the wider tank to slide into.  Using a 94 2500 cab (vacuum booster brakes) on the 95 3500HD chassis, so I need to install hydroboost in the 94 cab.
