Building a flatbed bed on a SWB 3500HD and would like to make it as narrow as practical.

Looking at the bump stops travel distance between frame and axle it has about 5-1/2" travel ...anyone actually bottom out one of these trucks?

Not sure how much my flat bed weighs but when I had 8,000lbs plus worth of cordwood on the back I measured the distance and I still had over 2" till bump stop contact.

Thanks..that's kinda what I hoped to hear...making the bed width just under 7.5' and some concern about outside rails making contact with tires loaded up.
Looking at my chassis that bump stop never made contact with the axle.
