Says it's a 5.7 and that's definitely a small block Vortec under the hood.  Seriously doubt it's original, wondering if it used to be a diesel?  I hadn't heard at all of the Vortec-era trucks having a 5.7 available in the 3500HD.

Kinda want to know the story on it (claims original owner) but not interested enough to call and bug the guy since I'm not a player on the truck. Anyway power windows and locks, looks like a decent truck overall.

Can't make out the writing above the fuel gauge....(unleaded or diesel only note?)

according to the instrument cluster she's a 5.7. If it were a diesel there'd be a 3,500 rpm red line. And if it was a 454 there'd be a 4,500 rpm redline. 5.7 vortevs have no redline on the tach, the ecm just limits it to 6,000 even though it'll hold together at 6,000+. Other than that I see no more evidence that it would be an original engine

Ed, definitely says unleaded fuel only.  And RPF good catch on the tach.  However, they could have swapped the cluster if they pulled a diesel engine out.

I'm not saying it's impossible but I just find it really hard to believe there was an original Vortec-era 5.7 3500HD!
