Convert front axle from 5 lug to 8 lug?
« on: May 03, 2017, 02:37:10 PM »
I'm considering a few options for my truck that I'm building. The main reason I ask about converting the front is because I want to use a full width rear dually axle in the rear rather than a Cab&Chassis axle. Was just curious since I do not have my crew cab on my property yet so I can start tearing it down.

Think this is the first time someone wanted to convert from 10 to 5 lugs!  Anyway just curious as to why you would want to run the wide axle..the commercial cab/chassis width is the more desired in my experience.  (not saying you are wrong) ;)

Converting to 8 you need to make sure that the new 8 lug axles have a minimum of the same specs as what you are taking out I.e. Weight rating, ring diameter, braking capability, etc.. I'd like to know why you want a full width axle. You can get a set of f450 or f550 front and rear axle sets on eBay for a decent price and you can buy the latest versions which have cool spring front and a big control arm, would be good for a low 4wd conversion. They also might have a wider track too

Due to recent budget cuts the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off

Gstubbz, one thing you might keep an eye out for is the ultra rare wide track axle for the C3500HD. it will bolt right up.
