You can appreciate the “beef” of the GMC/Chevy 3500HD trucks, a stripped rolling 3500HD chassis weighs more than a running C1500!

How many Crew Cabs were made?
« on: May 03, 2017, 10:55:21 PM »
I believe I have found some interesting information. Using CompNine to decode my vin, there is one RPO code that is interesting. Supposedly crew cabs were a factory option and not hacked together like we think. This was by far the least common similarity item in my RPO list. Also, 407 1996 trucks had the 5.13 rear ratio.

If you have a Crew Cab truck, send me the VIN and I can look it up with CompNine.

5,881 3500HDs were built for the model year 1996.
181 Crew Cabs were built

Determined this by this RPO:

WHV    HANDLING CHARGE - GMTG TO JANESVILLE VEHICLE MODIFICATION CENTER (181 units for 1996)

My truck also appears as a 135.5" wheelbase, which is wrong. It's 163.5"

I noticed that the Compnine data is incorrect from time to time for example showing 16" tires on a 3500HD.

A little history on the Janesville plant:
