1996 7.4 exhaust flange gasket.
« on: November 04, 2017, 03:37:24 PM »

I have a 1996 with a 7.4, the gasket for the exhaust flange between the cats blew out; this was the part number that I came up with Gasket. exhaust pipe (15027072) . I am hoping somebody has a parts book and could confirm this or knows the correct number. Thanks for any help.

Hey Ed, no I tried that one; it must be for the regular pickup...why they had to make them different I donít know. Rock auto has the one of the part # that I posted but itís a wildcard search and doesnít list applications on it. Think I may have to get it and hope for the best, and if itís not the one Iíll paste up the flange with JB weld or something and bolt it back together.

Something to consider when replacing the gasket mention.... the last two times I replaced this gasket in the location mentioned i had one o2 denser fail each time. I even used o2 sensor safe rtv. Each time it was a different vehicle also. I also suggest removing the exhaust and thoroughly cleaning the mating surface

240 your best bet is to leave the gasket out and drop the exhaust and just weld the flanges together all the way around. Thats what I did on mine, No amount of gaskets or sealer will fix it, Three bolts cant pull that warped flange together.

Thanks for the input; I had actually thought about welding theflange but that will be a means of last resort. The reason it came apart is the nuts totally disintegrated , it never seemed to leak prior to it popping apart. Ed I believe the last link you posted is a match for the one that I ordered; which matches the part number in my initial post. Iíll let yíall know if that one fits once it arrives.
