need new plate hitch.
« on: June 01, 2018, 10:40:06 PM »
contemplating purchasing a new plate hitch however the people selling them are not very helpful.

does anyone have measurements of the 3500 cab and chassis and also the 4500/5500 frames? i know the standard is 34" wide but how does the 3500hd frame rails compare to those in the height dimension?

it would appear the plate they sell for 3500 cab n chassis measures 15 1/2" tall as a whole and the 4500/5500 measures 16 15/16" tall

apparently the difference is in the frame area of the plates as below the frame cutout is the same for both.

im replacing the original plate as it is cracked. put it through its paces only to find out after it was an inferior 1/4" plate.

did not want to get the fabricator kit or fab my own from scratch if i dont have to.

thanks in advance

FYI On my 1995 135.5" WB 3500HD the rear frame channel is 8" top to bottom.

from what i can come up with the 4500/5500 has 8.30" frame.
the 3500HD has 8.00"
the 3500 cab and chassis has between 5.5" and 7" based on the reinforcement package.

i guess removing material is always better then adding it in.

both plates are rated for 20,000lb going top to bottom in frame would be ideal compared to the original one that was like 2 inches short with a spacer right? or am i just thinking more along the lines of strength the truck will never need?
