IH DT360 swap
« on: August 31, 2019, 05:15:43 PM »
Anyone ever done a DT360 swap into an HD? If so which trans? Any major hurdles besides custom mounts etc.? These engines are supposed to be a little beefier than the 5.9 Cummins , can be P pumped and easily make 300 HP. It would be cheaper to go with the Cummins ( not by much ) but I don't want to be yet another guy doing yet another Cummins swap.

I did a search of "DT360 swap" and found a bunch.

This one caught my attention:

I can understand the desire to not do what "everyone" else is doing, but the reason 5.9 swaps are so popular is it's a great engine and has a lot of aftermarket support.  It's kind of like why everyone (no quotes, literally everyone) is doing LS swaps.  The people I see looking down on those are the same type that in the past would look down on everything having a small block Chevy swap.  Hey; they work great, you can make it happen, and not blow a fortune/lose your mind doing it...and actually finish the project in time to enjoy it.

Something to think about!

Didn't  mean to sound like I was talking down at a Cummins swap. You are correct about them in your observations. They are the practical choice for diesel swaps in our beloved HD's. Sometimes I like to be a little different.

Jim!  No worries at all.  Just my take on what Ed had already posted - the swap sounds like a nightmare.  Would hate to see you get money deep in it and hit a brick wall.

I've got no room to talk; I still want to put a 6.1 Hemi / 5 speed auto out of an SRT8 into an early 90's C1500, along with whatever other donor car parts I can make work, too. :D  Talk about a nightmare, mostly electrical/computer disasters just waiting.
