Last four days have been a thrashfest. The paint from Eastwood wasn't as user friendly as it's advertised, and I have some more work to do there. Other than that, this feels pretty good.

So you left the longbed as-is and added a chopped-up bed as its own little section?  Kinda cool - any particular purpose in mind for it or just a stash spot for things so they won't go sliding around in the main bed area?

Thanks guys!

The added bed has a few purposes:
-Takes up the extra wheelbase I added with the new drivetrain.
-Will have the batteries and whatever else I can hide stored beneath a tool box.

I didn't graft them together due to my past history of smashing bedsides. If and when the bed is trashed, I can bolt another in its place in no time. I know a flatbed would make more sense, but I put a lot of things in a bed that would need to be tied down every single time. And I avoid a lot of hassle with daily driving a "commercial" truck in the eyes of you know who.

What would make the most sense is buying a decent truck, but I'm not wired that way  ;D

Shot of the "mid bed" before paint. I cut the front corners from another bed to give it a finished look.

At first glance I thought you might be building a cowboy sleeper box.

Hey, Raymo. I'm running almost exactly the same steering setup except both my steering links are above the springs since I bought a full high steer kit using NWF arms. Just figured I'd let you know that the tie rod ends didn't last very long for me. Ran the TRE's that came with the kit and almost immediately found play in them. So I went to napa and bought napa brand lifetimers. Plowed one winter with them and they had just as much play as the first. Found some bushingless steel on steel heat treated TRE's with a "king pin style" preload spring. Put a few hundred miles on so far and zero play, rock hard still. The truck did originally go in for allignment so I knew that wasn't the problem. The high steer TRE's are labeled as "1 ton TRE's" so not sure if my truck being 9600lb 1 1/4 ton, and big commercial tires put that much more stress on them???

I was having fairly good luck with the Moog problem solvers when I had the 60, but the longest I had one in was probably a year and a half.

I don't hold out much hope for these cheapo's that came in this ruffstuff kit, and I'm also not excited about the threaded inserts. Once it's mobile I'll probably spend the money on the taps and do it over myself.

I'd be interested to know more about the ends you found, sounds like a winner to me!

The TRE's I got are made by OFF ROAD DESIGN. They claim them to be their own brand. They can also make you a steering link from DOM that is already tapped

$95 for the pair isn't a bad price! Sound a lot like the Moog parts but I'll have to look some more into it. About the same price anyway.

If you've ever wondered how much paint it takes to do a 12v and Allison... It's 8 cans of primer and color... My finger might not recover!

Sure is, had to be sure to get one with the starter on the driver's side. The one that came with this engine had it opposite, and there was no way the starter and downpipe were fitting together.

I had to chop down the mounts that were cast into the bell to give it a round profile, drop the engine two inches (hence the new springs and front axle), and finally still cut a small access hole in the trans tunnel. Makes getting the upper bell housing bolts a lot easier anyway.
