That's my favorite picture!

So what do y'all think about a brush gaurd with a 15k winch and maybe 2 smaller spot lights on the front. If anyone has seen a HD with a brush gaurd and it looked good let me know. I love the "cat walk front bumper" perfect for a winch!

Only thing is you'll be making your own brackets for it; if you've not had the bumper off an HD you'll discover that the brackets are unique to it.  There are formed end-cap type pads welded to the frame horns that the bumper bolts directly to, instead of independent brackets that bolt both to the bumper and frame horn like on the 1 ton and lighter trucks.

Not saying it can't be done, just saying there may not be any commercially available direct-fit guards, you may need to buy one for a 1 ton and modify it a bit.

Ah the beauty of owning a 3500HD 8)! Yeah I figured that, I've never had the bumper off pwee( haven't done much of anything to it yet... but I will ;D) ill have to look at a 1ton with a brush guard. I would say they will be shorter too (height  wise) because of the cab being higher. So I would have to keep that in mind also.

Now what about a winch on the bumper, do you think its strong enough in the center or should I fab a heavy duty bracket, then weld it from bracket to bracket  inside the bumper? Instead of making a plate to mount the winch on then bolt that to the bumper.

As far as a winch is concerned, you won't be able to make a SAFE mount and retain the bumper anywhere near its current location. The HD leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion when it comes to the front of these frames. I would never trust the bumper brackets to support a winch load, so you'll have to fab a mount to get as much contact on the frame rails as possible, as a 15k winch is heavy and will break mounts in a hurry, let alone pull itself right off under load.

I was going to mount a 12.5k Warn to mine, but I chose having a plow instead.

Also, please do not weld your winch mount to the frame, a handful of grade 8 .5" bolts will work wonders. (Besides if you ever wanna switch back you'd have to chop it apart, and weaken the frame furthermore)

Agreed; minor bumper damage broke one mount each on both of my 3500HD's, cracked the welds right off the frame.  When I say "minor" I mean the bumpers were beat up but still looked like bumpers. ;)

Maybe ill just leave mine alone then. I like the front bumper, its shinny ;D! After looking at the picture at the top of this page I can't lie, pwee looks good the way it is! That's pulling out of my wood yard the other night, it looked so good when I was opening the gate, I thought to my self " I gotta take a pic of this and post it on 3500HD.com"! Its just so damn beefy from the front! When I finally get done with the wood, its getting some TLC!

That's an old Warn winch bumper, it was faily basic. AZTim has the same on his HD.

After smashing the side of the truck I'll be building a new bumper and guard for the front on my free time, if I can find any...  :D

When I bought that bumper used it was from a 73-87 Chevy pickup, I was planning on filling in the gaps to make it work, but never got that far.

No idea where they can be found, aside from Craigslist or something now. Easiest thing I think would be to see what a local welding shop could come up with.
