cab supports bent and crushed w/photos
« on: November 22, 2012, 04:08:39 PM »

I own a 99 3500 regular cab. I noticed the cab is slanted backward and about an inch lower than the cargo bed. I crawled under the truck and the chassis part where the cab mounts are bent down. Also all the bushings are crushed and deformed.  How can I get the cab lined up with the cargo bed? This is my first truck . Any help appreciated, thanks.

I have seen trucks up here in New York where the rear body rubber mounts actually bust through the bracket..as a result of road salt compromising the mount surface. I wouldn't think that road salt would be a problem in Costa Rica...but if you are making regular contact with salt water you might encounter the same situation.

The fix is to loosen all body mounts, lift the cab enough to weld a plate on top of the mounting bracket, drill a new hole and install a new body bushing/bolt.

Would be great if you could send a picture???  Wondering if the rear bushing bolts where loose and the cab has been bouncing up and down, resulting in the bent bracket?  I'm sure you would have heard and felt the body slamming up and down. You might be able to get away with new bushings and bolts.

Here are some photos. the truck looks like it had some damage and repairs. The body of the cab around the supports is bent like the bottom of the cab hit the chassis.
