Pic continued...

When installing the 5.9, you NEED (and can’t stress that enough like 100 times!!!!) to add some extra (pillar) gauges to keep tab on the engine. The addition of these gauges will save you countless hours and $$$$$ in the future. A fuel pressure gauge, a pyrometer and boost gauge.  I installed the fuel sender in top of the fuel filter housing (with a snubber).  I installed a boost line to the intake and the pyrometer in the exhaust manifold.  If you are running an automatic, a trans temp gauge is also should be on the must have list.

nice looking tow truck, clean swap like the red.. how does that low mount intercooler work??

btw 4.10 gears work well if you tow alot, 4.63 spin the motor alot,

I live in Nevada, so highway is mpg is king, depends on your use,   mine was against the governer, at 75mph,  with stock gears and sucked fuel..  getting the rpm down made a world of difference.

if I was doing it again I would go with a fuller fso6406a and 3.31 gears... 7 to 1 first gear and alot more torque capacity than the nv4500...and big high horse power clutches are cheep, where nv4500 clutches are $$ for a good one...

Thanks! The intercooler works fine. I have never seen over 1250 on the exhaust temp, even with a heavy load.(had a single wheel F350 4x4 7.3 loaded and was running the truck 70 plus on the interstate, including long hills) As stated before, it flows almost the same as OE Dodge, its half the height of OE, but twice the thickness.

I thought about going 4.10's, but it would make reverse too high with a load. 4.63’s are sometimes a little high for backing up a hill with a load. See my first post on engine mods. MPG is not an issue even with the pump turned up a little too far. An easy 12 mpg for a work truck is good. I am actually hoping for 14 in the summer with the pump turned down a little more. The truck will run 85 all mph day long if you let it.

My only ‘complaint’ if you want to call it that is second seems a little high for the 4.63’s. Starting out empty, I would like to be able to start in second for better driving.  This is so small of a deal that it is not worth the time to even look how to fix…

I took these pictures tonight. 1st one is at 56 MPH and the second is at 70 MPH

(Disclaimer, the MPH has been GPS matched and the RPM has been verified independently)

5.9L, Nv4500 in 5th gear, stock 225/70 R19.5 rubber, w/4.63's…

Note: I have as of yet figured out how to make the stock 6.5L computer to reconize the 5.9 and turn the "Service Engine Soon" light out...I am getting to think a "Pull A Bulb" is in order! LOL

Truck looks great; like the paint job.  Hard to go wrong with red and black and the scheme is unique.

Thanks, glad you like it. I actually wanted yellow and black, however the body guy was not to hip on painting yellow. Since he was doing the truck(s) on a trade, I settled on red. The 2 tone is based on an 80 GMC Pace Truck that was white and black or grey. I however went with cowl hoods vs a flat hood and a Trans Am bird...

I am still around. Got my 4 door cab and have saved up to buy my cummins motor. I think I am going to try and make my NV4500 live as it has such low miles.

Anyone have an opinion on the P=pump versus the VE pump? I want simplicity!

depends on what you are doing and how much freeway driving you are doing,  I run 3.54's but I am mostly highway,  if you tow alot 4.63 or 4.10's work better,

All highway, but mostly towing. I am going to build a deck on the rear to drive my 3500-3700 lb jeep up on the rear. But may occasionally throw another rig on the car hauler behind it.
