Double frame
« on: January 20, 2014, 11:05:27 PM »
Hey Guys,
I just picked up a 1994 4x4HD bucket truck. it appears to have the Monroe conversion. However, it doesn't have the double frame. This is my 2nd 4x4 HD and I have a 2wd and my other two have it. I thought all HD's came with the double frame? Am I wrong about this?

It seems a lot of the earlier ones did not.  Haven't been able to figure out what the exact criteria is but the longer wheelbase trucks seemed to get it automatically.

For example -

My 1993 was a 159.5" and did not.
My 1994 was a 135.5" and did not.
My 1995 was a 159.5" and DID.

Friend of mine's 1994 was a 135.5" and did have the double frame, but here's the catch - after noticing the rear suspension brackets and several crossmembers were bolted in, instead of riveted, we checked the VIN and found it started life as a 183.5" and had been shortened.

Thanks for the info. Id like to find a outer frame section and bolt it on - the truck is kinda heavy with the bucket boom on there.
