Weight / payload
« on: July 16, 2014, 10:19:14 PM »
I have a question so many time this has been asked , I have a 3500 hd  2001 6 .5 diesel 10 foot dump body , I just started really using it for some land in pa , I have to move 70 tons of sand for septic ,how many tons can I carry , I did 3 tons this week twice seemed like the weight was not the issue , the hills were slower , I took off the electronic pump and put on mechanical I still have to fine tune waste gate and throttle linkage ,

Here is what I think
9000 dry weight
15000 gvw
6000 payload
=3 ton s

Here's what happen I pulled up one morning asked pay loader operator , to put three in , he did three yards gravel
2500 pounds a yard. 7500 pounds truck handle it same as 3 tons ?

My numbers off ???

I have a 2000 3500HD 7.4/4L80E at work with a 10' dump.  With a driver in it that truck scales out at just under 8000#.  We routinely haul 3 cy which does weigh more like 7500# and puts us just a hair over GVW, depending on the material and how wet it is.  To be on the safe side of the law you shoud be hauling no more than 3-3.5 tons or 2.5 cy.
